Reports are that Philadelphia beat out New York for the privilege of hosting the Winter Classic. According to the Wall Street Journal, NHL officials toured Citi Field while they were considering host locations for the big game. In 2010 the Flyers played in the Winter Classic in Boston, loosing 2-1 in overtime. The 2011 Winter Classic was the highest-rated regular season NHL game in 36 years. The NHL will likely not reveal the 2011 Winter Classic venue until the Stanley Cup is completed. In fact there has been some talk of expanding the Winter Classic to include two games, one in the United States and another in Canada. So it is quite possible that there will be two Winter Classics in the future. In fact there was some talk following the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park that the Calgary Flames were close to hosting a second Winter Classic at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
