A recent story from ABC News reports that the NHL is strongly considering a 2011 Winter Classic matchup Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals with the Pittsburgh Steeler’s Heinz Field the host for the annual contest. The Winter Classic has become one of the most talked-about events in sports, and the Winter Classic venue is a source of much speculation heading into each year. Pittsburgh is well known for its sports fans, and you can expect a Winter Classic at Heinz Field would be quite popular. Fans would go nuts for a chance to buy Penguins Winter Classic tickets on New Year’s. With the rivalry between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby continues to grow in intensity, so it makes sense for the NHL to try and capitalize on the rivalry. So for now we suggest you get some NHL playoff tickets to see some hockey before it’s all over.

The NHL will likely not reveal the 2011 Winter Classic venue until the Stanley Cup is completed. And while there is a lot pointing in the direction of a Winter Classic at Heinz Field, its not the only place mentioned. In fact there has been some talk of expanding the Winter Classic to include two games, one in the United States and another in Canada. So it is quite possible that there will be two Winter Classics in the future. In fact there was some talk following the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park that the Calgary Flames were close to hosting a second Winter Classic at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Stay tuned to Winter Classic tickets for the latest news on the 2011 Winter Classic.

The first-ever Winter Classic was played by the Buffalo Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium and featured the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. The second event was held at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, while the third installment took place at Boston’s Fenway Park, which normally sells Boston Red Sox tickets during the summer. Whether Heinz Field ends up hosting the 2011 Winter Classic is still to be seen, however you can bet that no matter where its held, Winter Classic tickets are going to be in high demand.
