2010 Winter Classic
The 2009 Winter Classic sees the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Detroit Red Wings in what will be the club’s 701st ever meeting. That is the most times any two NHL teams have played each other. This game should really be a great one, as both teams have looked very good and have seen some huge spikes as far as fan support, Chicago in particular. While pre-season all the attention was on the Detroit Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks have turned plenty of heads with an incredible start to the season. Blackhawks fans are once again quite excited, and look like they could have plenty of reason to stay excited all season long.
The 2009 Winter Classic is just one more feather in the cap of Chicago fans in what has so far been a great season. But then again the Blackhawks are going to have to bring their A game to Wrigley Field if they are going to beat the Red Wings. The team has pretty much the same nucleus as the team that won the Stanly Cup last year, but also added the talented Marian Hossa. It looks to be a very good game, so if you can make definitely get your Winter Classic tickets.
The 2009 Winter Classic takes place on January 1, 2009 starting at 12 noon. This is the first Winter Classic to involve one of the original six teams.
The game will once again feature vintage jerseys, this time with an added promotion. Reebok has announced a promotion where one of the players won’t be wearing a Reebok logo. Both those in attendance and watching on TV will get a chance to identify the player and those who correctly identify him will get entered into a drawing for a chance to win Stanley Cup tickets. So if some great hockey action isn’t reason enough to get Winter Classic tickets, how about the chance to get Stanley Cup tickets?
The Wrigley Field location was announced on May 2009 by TSN. In the end it was between Chicago and New York for the chance to hos the event. While Penn State’s Beaver Stadium was another consideration, the fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins had played in the first Winter Classic made the league want to involve different teams.
